This year I made my first ever advent calendar.
AND I got it done before December 1st!
Which for me, is saying a lot.
Ask any family member.
I’m always late.
Always.
But enough about my failures.
I’ve seen zillions of varieties of Christmas countdowns lately, but wasn’t really sure which one to try. I don’t ever remember doing anything like this as a kid (although if we did, sorry mom, for not remembering), and the only thing I’ve ever actually seen done is the Humphrey’s little candy cane countdown.
Since I didn’t want to give my kids candy every day OR get tangled up in something too elaborate this is the quick, easy version I came up with.
I took a piece of 20″x30″ foamboard and then glued on 4″x4″ cardstock squares to make pockets.
Printed the numbers for each day and used my 2″ circle punch to cut them out and glue them onto the outside of the pockets.
Added a few cute embellishments and added cards to each pocket with a daily activity.
Susannah’s already been dying to find out what she gets to do first!
Thanks goodness for cute stickers because I don’t know how to do all that fancy scrapbooking stuff.
I realized after gluing the three sides of the pockets that it would have been smarter to fold the sides down first, which would have made it more pocket-like.
But they function perfectly fine, as is, so I’m not going to beat myself up over it.
Much.
