I thought maybe posting my monthly goals would keep me more accountable, so here is what I’m striving towards in April.

  • Gather ideas and formulate plan of attack for Susannah’s room makeover
  • Complete at least one project for Susannah’s room
  • Grow wheat grass with the girls
  • Attempt at least two new recipes
  • Have a yard sale to get rid of all the items I purged last month
  • Make the girls simple Easter outfits
  • Finish Lucy’s quilt and mail it off
  • Exercise at least 5 days per week
  • Mail one handwritten letter per week

  • A mom after God’s own heart by Elizabeth George
  • Real Food: What to eat and why by Nina Planck
  • Judges 6-21, Ruth, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, Luke 8-22 (following a plan to read the Bible in one year)
  • Continue reading a chapter from Leading Little Ones to God to the girls each day
  • Continue reading David Copperfield (only about 550 pages left!)

  • Memorize Colossians 1:23-29, 2:1
  • Memorize two verses with the girls

  • Content – definitely something I need to work on

March update:

I’m not sure if I hit my goal of de-cluttering 100 things around the house, and I don’t love the idea of going back through everything and counting, so I’m just going to find another 50 items this month and call it good.
I know I found quite a few items to part with since there’s a ginormous pile in my garage waiting for me to organize into a yard sale.

Also, since I haven’t peeked at my yearly list lately, I thought I’d give an update on how I’m doing so far.

Finish a creative project once a week = 52 projects

Success!  Definitely kept up with this one, although I probably haven’t posted about all of the projects I’ve done.

Start My Life: A Collection of Memories (yep…again)

Memorize 12 Scripture verses, 1 per month

This didn’t go well until the first of the year when I started the book of Colossians, but I’m on verses 23-24 this week, so I’m going to call it a success.  Memorizing is HARD, by the way.

Make a quilt – already have a pattern and most of the supplies (okay…for three.)

I am getting closer to finishing Lucy’s quilt!  Hopefully in the next few weeks I’ll have it done and mailed.

Update my journal weekly (or more)

I haven’t kept up with this as much as I’d like, but I do write several times a month.  Usually weird little tidbits when I’m really tired at the end of the day.  But whatever.

Learn to draw more than a stick figure (already working on this one)

Haven’t made much progress on this at all.  I’m stuck at a point where I need at least an hour of silence per project, and so far just haven’t used my quiet time for drawing.  Still something I want to do, though.

Learn 6 new songs on the piano (I know…I know)

Hahahahahaha!  I think next year I’ll just leave this completely off my list.  I know Thanksgiving moderately well, but nothing else.

Continue working with Susannah on learning to read, and start writing and basic math

We’re making good progress here, especially with writing.  Reading is still a bit of a struggle but she IS reading and writing.

Visit Phil and Jenn in Washington and take a trip to the Oregon coast! (Okay, this probably won’t happen while I’m 32 but a girl can dream, right?)

We’re going in July!  Can’t wait!

Read 2 books per month – 24 total. Still working on my to-be-read list for this goal.

I actually have read at least two books per month, but haven’t stuck to my reading list very well.  Semi-success, I guess.

Get my front flower bed planted this fall/spring with the varieties I’ve (finally!) decided on. It’s only taken me 5+ years to get to this point…

This is about half done.  I planted the peonies and some of the bulbs, but I still need to find the rose variety I want, as well as some border plants.  I’m sure this will take several years to end up looking like I want.

Paint and distress my bed frame. Shhhh….don’t tell Jeremy.

This hasn’t happened yet.  Maybe next month.  Maybe.

Get Madeline fully overnight potty-trained so I can move her into the other bedroom with Susannah.

This has been done for a while, but we decided against the girls sharing a room.  Words cannot describe how happy I am that I have no more kids in diapers or in-between.

Get the craft room/school room organized (can’t do this until the previous goal is reached).

I ended up making a craft nook since we nixed the room idea.  Works for me!

Buy some better dressers.

No.  Hasn’t happened.  Maybe soon.

Organize my photos into albums/print photos (from last years failure list)

I looked at them.  Does that count?

Learn how to use the manual controls on my camera and start taking better photos.

I’ve been shooting in manual almost exclusively the past few months.  I’m sure I have a ton to learn still, but at least it’s a beginning.

Learn how to make pretty cupcakes (I’m obssessed, I know).

Hmm.  I’ve made some pretty ones and some hideous ones.  This is going to be an ongoing goal, I think.

Send out birthday cards….on time.

Complete fail.  Probably always will be.  I doubt anyone is surprised about this.

Be a more intentional mom.

I’m trying.  There are lots of days I fail.

Continue my quest to cook healthy-ish meals from scratch

I think I’m doing okay on this.  I’m not only using organic foods or anything, but I usually avoid pre-packaged foods, and stuff.  I’m currently researching this a bit.

Add 12 more “keeper” recipes to my collection – 1 per month

Yes, I’ve found more than that.  Meals are definitely not as boring as before, although tacos still appear on the menu frequently. ;)

Deep clean my carpets. I’ve attempted to get this done several times recently and am always thwarted by something or the other (no rentals available, all rentals broken, etc).

Aurgh!  No!  I think about it all the time and I can never seem to have a weekend free (I need Jerm to help me move furniture) to just do it.

Somehow teach my kids to be more organized and responsible with their stuff/toys/clothes/etc.

Definitely an ongoing thing.  We’re trying.

Badger Jeremy Persuade Jeremy into building shelves in the back bathroom

No.  I haven’t even badgered.  How un-wifely of me.

Decorate the master bedroom

Nope, this got pushed off when I started the girls rooms.  Probably not going to happen till much later in the year.  I do have some ideas for it, though.

Make the girls Christmas and/or Easter dresses

Yes.  Both, actually!

Learn to better control my temper and have more patience

Hmm. I really have tried…

Keep clutter at a minimum

Yeah, we’re doing ok on this.  It’s definitely a process.

Have family photos taken

Not yet.  This reminds me that I need to schedule that.

Start couponing again – but only for what we really need

No, and I really can’t find the desire to start again.  Maybe next year.

Start appreciating the little moments of each day with my girls. They’ll be grown up before I know it.
Working on this one, too.  It’s hard to remember in the day-to-day frustrations.

Overall, I really don’t think I’ve done too badly this year. There are obviously some big projects that haven’t happened yet, but I still have a few months. :D

Now, I’m off to work on those Easter outfits….
